Why SolaxMonitor is collector-powered
Cloud-only monitoring is convenient, but it cannot support the complete SolaxMonitor experience. The Collector is the reliable local bridge for data and automations.
Why cloud-only is a compromise
A hosted web app cannot directly reach a private inverter IP inside your home network. SolaX Cloud can provide limited read-only data, but it is delayed, incomplete for some metrics, and not suitable for safe Modbus TCP control.
That is why SolaxMonitor now focuses on the local Collector. It runs inside your home network, reads the inverter locally every 10 seconds, and securely uploads data to your account for dashboards, history, and automation logic.
Collector: full feature path
10-second local data, full history, EV visibility, tariffs, and Modbus automation from one always-on bridge.
Collector Box for easy setup
A plug-and-play box is in development for users who do not want to manage their own Raspberry Pi, NAS, Docker, or PC.
Secure local bridge
The inverter stays private on your LAN. The Collector sends only authenticated data to your SolaxMonitor account.
Automation-ready
Modbus TCP commands, tariff decisions, EV charging, and export control need a local process that is awake when automation should run.
Why the app itself cannot collect in the background
Browsers and mobile apps cannot reliably poll a local inverter every 10 seconds while closed, sleeping, or outside your home network. An internet server also cannot reach private LAN addresses like 192.168.x.x without a local endpoint.
The Collector is that endpoint. It is small, always-on, and designed only for the job: collect local inverter data, keep history complete, and enable automation safely.
Your options
The product direction is intentionally simple:
- Run the Collector now on a Mac, PC, Raspberry Pi, NAS, or Docker host that already stays on 24/7.
- Wait for the Collector Box if you want a plug-and-play hardware option with no technical maintenance.
- Use SolaX Cloud only for limited import : helpful for migration or diagnostics, but not a replacement for the Collector and not the full product experience.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I need a Collector?
The Collector runs inside your home network, so it can reach the inverter locally and stay awake 24/7. That is required for reliable 10-second history and Modbus automation.
Can a hosted server collect from my local IP address?
No, not directly. Private LAN IP addresses are behind NAT and are not reachable from an internet server. A tunnel or VPN still needs a local endpoint running at home, which is effectively a collector.
Can I avoid the Collector completely?
Not for the full SolaxMonitor product. Reliable 10-second history, EV visibility, tariff-aware planning, and safe Modbus TCP automations require a local Collector or the upcoming Collector Box.
What if I am not technical?
That is exactly why we are preparing the plug-and-play SolaxMonitor Collector Box during June 2026.
